Black History Month Cinema: “A Raisin in the Sun”
Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Month

February 7 @ 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Celebrate 100 years of Black History Month as we present a film series of classic African-American cinema. A Raisin in the Sun (not rated), is a 1961 drama based on the award winning play by Lorraine Hansberry. It stars a stellar cast with Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee, Diana Sands, Claudia McNeil, Ivan Dixon, and Lou Gossett. This lauded drama follows the Youngers, an African-American family living together in an apartment in Chicago. Following the death of their patriarch, they try to determine what to do with the substantial insurance payment they’ll soon receive. Opinions on what to do with the money vary. Walter Lee wants to make a business investment, while his mother, Lena is intent on buying a house for them all to live in — two differing views of the American Dream. Popcorn and movie snacks will be served. Contact Ronald Headen at 336-412-6199 or email for more information.
